IS YOUR CHILD STRUGGLING WITH

CONFIDENCE, FOCUS, LISTENING SKILLS OR SELF-CONTROL?

ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT BULLYING—

AND WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE NOT THERE?

As parents, we want our children to listen, follow directions, make good decisions, stand up for themselves, and have the confidence to handle life's challenges.

But sometimes telling them isn't enough. They need a place to practice becoming that child.

Then I would make this next statement large and bold:

THAT'S WHERE BLUE LIFE KARATE CAN HELP.

We use martial arts as a vehicle to help children develop confidence, focus, discipline, respect and self-control—while teaching them practical skills to recognize trouble, deal with bullying, and protect themselves when necessary.

WE'RE NOT JUST TEACHING YOUR CHILD HOW TO FIGHT.

WE'RE TEACHING THEM HOW TO HANDLE THEMSELVES.

THE BLUE LIFE KARATE APPROACH

WE USE KARATE AS A VEHICLE TO DEVELOP THE WHOLE CHILD

Our members tell us that our school is more of an institution of self-improvement, physically and mentally, than just a gym or some “activity.” It feels like a family. We concentrate on building the whole person—physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and socially.

I pride myself on helping our adult members safely build lean muscle, quickly burn fat, gain flexibility, and relieve stress in a FUN, positive, and injury-free environment!

And for the children, parents all over the Maplewood area give my martial arts classes credit for increasing their child’s ability to focus in school and at home, building their self-esteem, and igniting a passion for self-improvement they never would have expected.

At Blue Life Karate, teaching a child to kick and punch is only a small part of what we do.

Our real work begins with the child.

We use the structure of martial arts training to help children practice the behaviors parents want to see at home, in school, and in everyday life.

THEY SEE A GAME.

WE SEE AN OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH.

Children learn differently than adults.

That's why our classes aren't built around making children stand in lines doing the same movement over and over again.

We use games, challenges, movement and a playful teaching approach to bring out the best in each child.

But there's a purpose behind the fun.

A game that requires a child to wait for a signal is teaching listening and self-control.

A challenge that requires remembering a sequence is developing focus and concentration.

Working with a partner teaches cooperation and respect.

Trying again after missing a technique teaches perseverance.

Successfully completing something they couldn't do before develops real confidence.

YOUR CHILD THINKS THEY'RE HAVING FUN.

WE KNOW THEY'RE LEARNING.

And that's the beauty of the Blue Life teaching method.

We work toward the goals you have for your child while giving your child an experience they actually look forward to coming back to.

BEFORE WE TEACH THEM TO CONTROL A TECHNIQUE, WE TEACH THEM TO CONTROL THEMSELVES.

A child learns that when an instructor is speaking, we stop and listen.

When directions are given, we follow them.

When something becomes difficult, we don't quit.

When frustration comes, we learn to manage our emotions.

When we have the ability to hurt someone, we learn the responsibility not to.

And when someone tries to bully or intimidate us, we learn to respond with awareness, confidence and self-control.

THE LESSON STARTS ON THE MAT.

THE GOAL IS FOR IT TO FOLLOW YOUR CHILD HOME.

We want parents to begin seeing the difference outside our school.

Better listening.

Better focus.

Greater confidence.

More self-control.

A willingness to keep trying.

And a growing understanding of responsibility and respect.

Because the real victory isn't performing the perfect kick.

IT'S WHEN MOM OR DAD STARTS SEEING THE DIFFERENCE AT HOME.

That last line is the one I would make visually powerful on the website.

And there's another reason I really like adding the play-based approach here: it answers an unspoken concern from the parent.

Mom wants discipline, but she probably doesn't want her six-year-old walking into some frightening military-style environment.

Now we're telling her:

Yes, we have structure. Yes, we have discipline. But we understand children.

That's a much warmer picture of Blue Life.

EVERY CHILD STARTS SOMEWHERE

YOUR CHILD DOESN'T HAVE TO BE “READY” FOR KARATE.

THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE.

Some children walk through our doors full of confidence.

Others may be shy, nervous, easily distracted, full of energy, unsure of themselves, or afraid of trying something new.

That's okay.

We don't expect your child to arrive already focused, disciplined, confident, or able to follow every instruction perfectly.

THOSE ARE SOME OF THE VERY THINGS WE'RE HERE TO HELP THEM DEVELOP.

We meet children where they are and help them move forward one small victory at a time.

For one child, that victory might be standing in front of the class without being afraid.

For another, it might be waiting patiently for their turn.

For another, it might be looking an instructor in the eyes and answering with confidence.

Another child may need to learn that losing a game doesn't mean getting angry or giving up.

And for the child who has been picked on or bullied, that first victory may simply be learning to stand taller, speak clearly, look someone in the eye, and believe: “I don't have to be afraid.”

SMALL VICTORIES BECOME CONFIDENCE.

CONFIDENCE BECOMES CHARACTER.

We don't compare your child to the child standing next to them.

We compare them to the child who walked through our doors yesterday.

Our job is to recognize their strengths, challenge them where they need to grow, celebrate their progress, and gradually raise the expectations as they're ready for more.

Because becoming a Black Belt isn't about becoming someone else.

IT'S ABOUT DISCOVERING THE BEST VERSION OF WHO YOUR CHILD CAN BECOME

People believe that karate martial arts training is just another extracurricular activity; that is a misconception. There is not any program that is going to give you the benefits that you receive from martial arts training. Many people think martial arts are just about fighting; the truth is that the physical “kicking and punching” are really just the tools that I use to teach the most important and MUCH more valuable lessons about yourself.
